| History
in Development of the Military S026-A Telesis Parachute harness and Container System |
|||||
|
Prior to January 1999 various military organisations conducted freefall courses utilising the MT1-XX and then the MC-5 parachute systems. Both of these systems were developed for the intention of delivering personnel and equipment of considerable combined weight in HALO and HAHO exercises. Personnel learning Free Fall were instructed on these systems without combat and supply equipment. Major disadvantages were pointed out to us in the above training configuration:- a) Personnel, especially smaller framed, encountered difficulty with stability in free fall due to the large pack size and weight. b) Considering that the parachute size is approx 375 square feet, manoeuvrability under the parachute was limited should there be in excess of 15 kts wind speed. More so with suspended weights of less than 80 kgs. c) Valuable service life was being expended on a combat fleet of expensive MT1-XX or MC-5 systems during Free Fall Training exercises. As a result a suggestion
was put forward to adapt the Telesis system so that the various activation handles were placed
in positions that matched the MT1-XX or MC-5 systems. |
